One reason your puppy may be chewing is that he is bored. He simply may not be getting enough attention and play time from you. His chewing is a way to simply entertain himself.

If you believe that this is the reason for the chewing, you will find that you can stop puppy from chewing by simply giving him more of your time. When you come home from work, make sure that you are setting aside some time that is just for you and the puppy. Take him for a long walk. Play some game with him.

Basically, you want to make sure that you are giving your puppy some entertainment and you are getting all of that bound up energy out of the puppy. This way, when it is all said and done, he will not have to chew in order to release any energy.

Then again, if you have already been making sure that your puppy is getting plenty of play time and exercise time, the chewing may be a sign of something else. One thing that will surely make a puppy chew is teething. Puppies go through a teething stage just like human babies. When babies go through their teething stage, we give them frozen teething rings. This is something you might want to do for your puppy as well.

Just make sure that the teething ring is filled with a non-toxic substance, just as it should be if it were being given to a baby. The ice cold teething ring will help stop puppy from chewing on everything else in the house as he will have pain relief from the teething ring.

As the puppy matures, the instinct to chew will become less and less of a problem. There are always those cases though where adult dogs continue to chew for various behavioral issues. If you find that you simply cannot keep your dog from chewing, no matter what you have tried at home or how many books you have read, it is important to make sure that you are not giving up.

It might take special training from a dog trainer in order to stop puppy from chewing. Training sessions should not cost much at all and you will be able to stop them once it is seen that your puppy has made an improvement with the problem of chewing. It will be up to you to make sure that what is being taught in training class is being reinforced at home.
